Pieper High Student Selected for Prestigious Leadership Program

March 28, 2025 - A sophomore at Pieper High School was selected as one of 10 students worldwide for the 2025 Frances Hesselbein Student Leadership Program Class, and she recently attended sessions at the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs.

As a member of this prestigious class, Isabella Sickler, 16, spent five days developing her leadership and team building skills. This scholarship-based program was established by the Military Child Education Coalition (MCEC) to give students an opportunity to build their skills through personal and small group settings with the understanding that they will take what they learn back to their campuses and make their Student 2 Student (S2S) programs stronger.

“I was excited to receive the Hesselbein honor and to have the opportunity to travel to Colorado Springs to be a part of this prestigious group,” says Sickler who has been involved in S2S since middle school. “It was a once in a lifetime experience, and I learned more than I thought I ever could.”

The S2S program is a peer-to-peer student-led organization that brings military and civilian students together to welcome new students, create a positive environment, build connections through service and ease transitions.

Sickler plans to use her leadership skills to further develop the already successful S2S group on her campus which helps new students get involved and not feel alone.

“She is one of our strongest leaders,” says Laura Martin, the PHS S2S adviser. “She was chosen from a worldwide pool of applicants and being chosen as a sophomore speaks volumes about her leadership skills and potential.”

Besides her involvement with S2S, Sickler is enrolled in all advance placement and honors courses, will serve as the community service vice president for the student body in the next school year, is a two-year varsity girls basketball manager and participates in emerging leaders and the outdoor adventure club.

Frances Hesselbein served as the CEO for the Girl Scouts of the USA and was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom for her work.
